Family Support

Belvoirdale Primary School > About Us > Family Support

Belvoirdale Primary School ensures that is supports not only our pupils, but the family around them. We are here to support in a number of ways both emotionally and practically.

Lindsey Woodward- Family Support Worker

Lindsey works with our families who need support outside of school, Lindsey can support are parents and carers with the following:

  • work with people who have drug or alcohol addiction
  • support a parent who is in hospital or prison
  • support clients who have marital or financial difficulties
  • support a child or parent with a disability
  • attend court sessions that deal with care orders for children
  • work with social workers to assess a family’s needs when a child returns home after being in care
  • support people with language barriers who are struggling to access services
  • help clients to develop parenting and home management skills

Michelle Prime- ELSA

Mrs Prime is our school ELSA and she does a lot of work supporting children across the school in a number of different ways.

An ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed. The majority of work is delivered on an individual basis, but sometimes small group work is more appropriate, especially in areas of social and friendships skills. ELSA sessions take place in our ELSA room which provides a calm, safe space for the child to feel supported and nurtured.

We provide support for a wide range of emotional needs including:

  • Recognising and understanding emotions
  • Building self esteem
  • Social skills
  • Friendship skills
  • Anger and behaviour management
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Transition/change

If you are concerned about the mental health or wellbeing of your child please discuss you concerns initially with your child’s class teacher.
