At Belvoirdale, we have designed our own project based curriculum. It is based on National Curriculum objectives and is underpinned by our core curriculum values (see below).
Our curriculum is designed to inspire and engage both boys and girls with subjects that are relevant and thought provoking. Creativity is encouraged and total immersion in a project is encouraged so that subjects are not taught individually but creativity through other subjects. This can be seen through the individual topic webs that are sent home at the beginning of each project (usually half termly). These are also available on the school website along with curriculum overviews.
Each project begins with a knowledge harvest where parents are invited in to school to support their child’s introduction to the new subject. Adults are encouraged to offer their skills and experiences if they are relevant to the subject being taught. At the end of the project, a parents are once again invited to attend a fab finish in school to celebrate the work and achievements of the children. Where possible, visits to places of interest linked to the learning are supported and subsidised by the school.
Each project has a driver book or books which are high quality texts and where possible, links are made to local history and events.
Work is completed in one curriculum book.
